Police Officer Up For Criminal Abuse of Office Charge

A female member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Yvonne Murwisi stationed at Milton Park Police Station, has appeared before the courts facing a charge of criminal abuse of office.

It is the state’s case that on Friday 31 October 2021, the complainant gave Trymore Mangwiro a mandate to sell her vehicle, a Toyota Mark X 2012 model valued at $9000-00usd at his car sale situated along Selous Avenue Harare.

On 31 October 2021, the complainant received a call from Trymore Mangwiro to the effect that he had sold the vehicle and the complainant was supposed to collect her money at Queen Elizabeth Girls High School.

The complainant arrived at the school in the company of her friend Tongesai Muza and they met Trymore Mangwiro who told them that he was given USD $5300-OO as part payment for the vehicle.

The complainant then rejected the offered money and instead asked for the full payment of the vehicle or the reversal of the deal. After the complainant had failed to agree with Trymore Mangwiro they engaged Murwisi whom they knew as a Police Officer and was supposed to action their report.

Murwisi drove to Harare Central Police Station parking space, and met the complainant and Trymore Mangwiro. After some deliberations Mangwiro committed to pay USD$5300-00 on that particular day and the rem aining USD$3500 was to be paidthe following day and the agreement was noted down by the accused person. The complainant instructed Trymore Mangwiro to give the accused USD$5300-00 which was at hand and the accused person confirmed being given the money.

The complainant approached the accused person to get the USD$5300-00 that they had entrusted her for safe-keeping. Murwisi was contacted by the complainant and started giving numerous excuses, prompting the complainant to file a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused person on the 8th of November 2021.

The total value stolen is $5300-00usd and nothing was recovered. Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi remanded Murwisi to the 11th of November for bail ruling.
