PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa, has described the late Zanu PF Central Committee member and former Muzvezve constituency legislator, Peter Haritatos as a loyal and respected patriot.

Haritatos (77) was father to Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Deputy Minister, Vangelis Haritatos.

He succumbed to Covid-19-related complications at St Annes Hospital in Harare on Saturday.

In a statement, President Mnangagwa said the nation has been robbed of a reliable patriot who loved his country.
“Baba George, as he was affectionately called, suffered and endured racial discrimination and human indignity at the hands of the white colonial settlers before Independence.

“His political activism and support for our liberation struggle landed him in jail, thus the late Honourable Haritatos will be given a state assisted funeral,” said the president.

He further said: “His untimely death highlights how dangerous and widespread the disease has become in our country; no one is safe from it until everyone is safe.”
