Prison Guards Up For Assault

Two officers from Chikurubi Maximum security prison, have appeared before the courts facing assault charges.

Investigators heard that on the 5th of January 2022 at Chikurubi Maximum prison, Michael Nduna and Florence Chihambakwe, both prison officers, assaulted Alex Gombedza together with his friend by hitting them several times on their feet with plastic pick handles for trespassing.

The two had used a road which passes through Chikurubi Prison Premises.

A report was made at ZRP Highlands and investigations were done, leading to the arrest of the accused persons. Gombedza and his friend were then referred to Parirenyatwa hospital for treatment.

Harare Magistrate Yeukai Dzuda remanded the duo to tomorrow (Thursday) for bail ruling.
