South Africa’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mphakama Mbete says he is yet to be briefed on the impending African National Congress (ANC) visit to Zimbabwe.
Yesterday, while addressing the media after an ANC national executive council meeting, President Cyril Ramaphosa said some members of the ANC top brass were headed to Zimbabwe.
The visit, he said, was a follow up to the one by his envoys on August 11.
“… I am waiting for formal communication from my government. So I am hoping that will happen but I am waiting for formal communication,” said Ambassador Mbete.
The three envoys who came to Zimbabwe three weeks ago were led by former South African Minister of Safety and Security Dr Sydney Mufamadi, and included former Speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete and former South African Minister of Public Service and Administration Advocate Ngoako Ramatlhodi.
According to The Herald, after meeting President Mnangagwa on August 11, Dr Mufamadi said, “We are not going to respond for our President through the media. We will be reporting to the President first, who will then interact with the public in due course.”
