Two employees of a South African bus company were imprisoned for eight months for violating Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 lockdown.

The lockdown prohibits inter-city travel and imposes a 12-hour curfew which begins at 6pm.

Police swooped on Shelton Matambo and Perkins Mugwagwa as they ferried passengers from Mutare to Beitbridge at night.

The two are employees of Mulaudzi Bus Services.

They pleaded guilty when they appeared before Beitbridge Magistrate Eunice Chimweta on Monday.

The magistrate set aside three months of the sentence, leaving Matambo and Mugwagwa to serve five months.
