A 21-year-old man from Jormawena Shed, Godavery farm, Harare Airport, has landed himself in court facing two counts of contravening the electricity act after he cut and stole 3.3 metres of ZETDC armoured cable used in connection with generation transmission.

It is the state’s case that Lovemore Jonasi who is employed at the farm as a security guard, hatched the plan to steal the cables with his two accomplices, Adam and Kapini.

One Lawrence Antonio who resides at the farm, saw the accused in action and mobilized other workers at the same farm to approach him. The accused attempted to run away but the team managed to apprehend him.

The court heard that after committing the offence Jonasi and his accomplices forgot a screwdriver inscribed Lewis at the scene of the crime. It was later established that Lewis was Jonasi’s father, leading to his arrest on the 17th of January after admitting that Lewis was indeed his father.

Harare Magistrate Yeukai Dzuda remanded Jonasi in custody to the 28th of January.
