One of the biggest churches in Zimbabwe, the Seventh Day Adventist, is investigating the alleged poisoning of one of its senior pastors.

There is suspicion the alleged poisoning is linked to the church’s impending internal polls.

Pastor Fortunate Chipunza is receiving treatment, and it is unclear whether the church has engaged police.

Seventh Day Adventist Church East Zimbabwe Conference spokesperson Pastor Ahmed Kahn told ZTN on Thursday: “I am not clear exactly what transpired. We are hoping that results provided by doctors who have worked on him can help us understand what happened and then we will take it from there.”

He added, “We have asked (Pastor Chipunza) for the results, but he doesn’t want to show them to us. We have asked some people to go and talk to him because without the results, there is nothing we can do.”

Pastor Chipunza said he is focusing on recovery.

“I am not in a position to speak to the Press at the moment. I am only focusing on my recovery,” he said.

Pastor Chipunza is a senior pastor at the church’s North Zimbabwe Conference.
