Zimbabwe has recorded its second Covid-19-related death as cases of the disease rose to 11.

The 79-year-old man died last Saturday, and his Covid-19 test result was confirmed positive posthumously.

He was from the country’s second largest city, Bulawayo.

In a statement on Tuesday night, the Health Ministry said the man visited a general medical practitioner on March 23, complaining of a fever, sore throat and cough.

He was subsequently admitted to hospital and tested.

“…His condition deteriorated during the evening of the day of admission and he was transferred to the intensive care unit for critical care and management in isolation under a specialist physician,” reads the statement, in part.

“On Saturday, the 4th of April, his condition continued to deteriorate despite management in ICU until he deceased.”

Covid-19 has killed over 80 000 people globally, with an estimated 1,4 million others infected.

Journalist Zororo Makamba was the first to die of the disease in Zimbabwe.

The country is on lockdown to curtail its spread.
