Sharne Mayers moves up T20 batting rankings

LADY Chevrons’ opening batter, Sharne Mayers has moved up the charts in the latest MRF Tires International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 batting rankings.
Mayers moved up two position from number 20 to number 18 and is the highest ranked Zimbabwean in the shortest format of the game. The 30-year-old has been one of the consistent performers for the Lady Chevrons recently.
She has a rating of 582 points and her latest performance in Zimbabwe Women’s tour of Thailand helped in her movement. Despite the Lady Chevrons losing both the One Day International (ODI) and T20 series, Mayers was one of the most consistent players in Gary Brent’s team.
She played a match winning knock in the first T20I which Zimbabwe won by 24 runs. The opener remained undefeated on 71 runs from 67 balls which was her fourth T20I half century and also became her highest score in 20 over international cricket.
Mayers’ previous highest score was an unbeaten 68 runs which came against Namibia in Windhoek last year.
The second highest ranked Zimbabwean in the format is Modester Mupachikwa who is in position 36 with a rating of 513 points and is followed by Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano on number 41 with a rating of 485 points. Lady Chevrons skipper, Mary-Anne Musonda moved one spot to position 46 with a rating of 448 points. The four are the only Zimbabwean players in the top 50 of the rankings.
In T20Is, the Bulawayo born Mayers has played 25 matches and has 22 innings. From the matches played, she managed to score 647 runs with a high score of 71 and an average of 34,05. She also has one wicket under her name in the format.
