Speeding car kills one person in Mbare

One person died, while four others were critically injured and 10 other people, among them minors escaped with moderate injuries after they were hit by a speeding vehicle near Mupedzanhamo flea market area in Mbare, a suburb in Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital.
Police identified the deceased as Kudakwashe Mabhande who had just collected his Grade Seven results and passed with eight units.
Most of the injured people were vendors who sell their wares on the roadside.
Witnesses said the driver, a woman, lost control of the vehicle and ploughed into the vendors, smashing everything along the way.
When a ZTN news crew arrived at the accident scene Mabhande’s father cut a dejected figure as he sat haplessly, just a few metres away from his son’s lifeless body.
National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident which occurred on Friday morning.
“One person died and four others were injured. Reports that 10 people were killed are false,” he said without giving further details.
