Zimbabwean journalist-cum-political activist Hopewell Chin’ono, who was in remand prison for almost two months, has been released on ZWL$10 000 bail.
Chin’ono was ordered to report to police twice a week, surrender his title deeds and reside at his given home address.
High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi on Wednesday ordered Chin’ono not to use his social media accounts.
Justice Chitapi said: “No continuity of demonstrations was advocated. Nothing was put in place to show that July 31 was for commencement of a process. So (the) magistrate misdirected in failing to find that (the) passing of July 31 was a changed circumstance.”
Chin’ono and Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume are being charged with inciting violence by encouraging citizens to engage in anti-government protests.
Ngarivhume was granted ZWL$50 000 bail on Wednesday
