Gems win first match at Netball World Cup

Zimbabwe’s Senior Netball Team, the Gems have made history, kicking off what could be a thrilling world cup journey, with a 79-49 win over Sri Lanka – their first win in a World Cup tournament.

The 15th edition of the Netball World Cup, which kicked off in Liverpool today, will run until July 21.

Other than Zimbabwe, Africa is also represented by Uganda, Malawi and South Africa at the tournament.

The Zimbabwe Gems are in Group A, along with reigning champions Australia and Northern Ireland.

In the other Group A game, Australia prevailed over Northern Ireland, beating them 88-24.

Zimbabwe now brace to face tournament favourites and reigning champions Australia tomorrow (Saturday) at 10 am CAT.
