The Government of Zimbabwe has offered a cost of living adjustment salary deal to civil servants that will see the lowest paid worker take home RTGS$1023 up from RTGS$582 effective August 1.

The National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) comprising Government and Apex Council met today and the employer improved its initial 10 percent offer to 76 percent of the total package.

However, the Apex Council insists the adjustment is still way below their demands of having the least paid worker getting RTGS$4750 a month.

“In response the Apex Council requested for time to consult with their members. On Tuesday 28 August 2019, the two parties will meet again for further deliberations on the issue,” said the council in a statement.

If the increase takes effect, it would be a second salary adjustment for civil servants within three months after a $400 million salary package tabled in April.

Efforts by ZTN to get a comment from Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Dr Sekai Nzenza on the latest development were unsuccessful as her phone went unanswered.

But Government has in the past said it will continue to review salaries for civil servants to cushion them against the high cost of living.
