The death of media personality Zororo Makamba from Covid- 19 is now a subject of investigation in Zimbabwe.
Makamba (30) died in Harare on Monday.
Harare City Council spokesperson Micheal Chideme said they opened investigations after the deceased’s family reportedly expressed reservations about how he was attended to at Wilkins Hospital.
“Harare City Council is instituting investigations into what happened at Wilkins Hospital when the late Mr Zororo Makamba was admitted. The investigation comments by the Makamba family over allegations of impropriety in the manner the patient was handled,” said Chideme.
Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care disclosed that Makamba had a previous medical history, which made him more vulnerable to Covid-19.
It is not clear where he picked up the infection from, but he started exhibiting signs and symptoms of coronavirus a few days after arriving from New York, the United States.
From the US, Zororo connected through South Africa.
The US and South Africa were already battling Covid-19 at the time of Zororo’s travel.
A few days after arriving in Zimbabwe, he started exhibiting signs and symptoms of coronavirus leading to his admission at Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospital where he died Monday.
He was the second person in Zimbabwe to be confirmed as having contracted the coronavirus.
