Harare City Council has started disinfecting public places in the city’s Central Business District as part of measures aimed at guarding against the coronavirus.
The two-week exercise targets to sanitize bus termini, shopping malls, restaurants and all public transport.
Harare city council spokesperson Michael Chideme confirmed the development.
“We – together with clean city community environmental services – are spraying all public places to disinfect them of any viruses.
“There is garbage that has not been collected because the city council does not have fuel, so the disinfection will kill a lot flies and viruses that might be there,” he said.
Zimbabwe has not recorded a Coronavirus case but with neighbours South Africa having recorded cases, Harare says it is on high alert.
