Zimbabwe Tennis sensation Valerie Bhunu has shifted focus to physical training in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic that has grounded sporting activity across the globe.

The 25-year-old has of late struggled to return to her meteoric best, but just before the Covid-19 pandemic which spread across the globe, she had exhibited signs of returning to top form.

“My career has had a lot of ups and downs.”

“Recently I had to play my first tournament after a while and won, and I was making my way back to (competitive) tennis but unfortunately the Coronavirus pandemic happened.

“But I am also now studying physical training just to improve myself,” she said.

Bhunu who has had an admirable Tennis career so far told ZTN Sports that she could have been a short distance athlete if she had not played tennis.

“I could have probably done athletics, as I am fast, I could probably have enjoyed it, probably 200 metres sprinting.”

She also gave a glimpse of her life outside the tennis court, thanking her parents for the role they played in her career.

“To go to new places, meeting new people, learning a lot of new things, different cultures, that is the aspect I really enjoy.

“There is also the downside which is exhausting, especially travelling from Africa which is pretty much far and also very costly.”

“My parents have been very supportive, supporting me mentally and financially and that really made a huge difference that I have their back,” said Bhunu.
