Anthrax scare; eleven jumbos die

Eleven elephants were found dead on Friday in Matabeleland North, in a case of suspected anthrax.

The Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS) said the elephants were discovered at Pandamasue Forest, between Victoria Falls and Hwange. 


According to Zimparks spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo, the authority is carrying out investigations to determine the exact of the jumbos’ death. 


“The elephants were found dead in Pandamasue Forest. Zimparks suspects anthrax.Veterinary doctors are on the ground. We are waiting for results from the laboratory,” he said.

Last year, 200 elephants died in Hwange National Park due to a severe drought. Recently, Botswana also lost 400 elephants under unclear circumstances
