The national death toll from Covid-19 now stands at 80 as 10 more people succumbed to the disease yesterday.

To date Zimbabwe has 4,075 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, with 154 new cases all of which are local transmissions and have been isolated.

According to the daily Covid-19 report by the Ministry of Health and Child care of the 10 new deaths recorded, eight were in Harare, one in Manicaland and the other in Matebeleland South.

The report read, “We regret to report 10 facility deaths, the deaths include 4 females and 4 males from Harare Province, 1 male from Mashonaland West Province and 1 male from Matebeleland South Province.

Treasury recently allocated an additional ZWL$18,5 million for Covid-19 Rapid Response Teams, because of the continuous rise in cases in Covid-19 local infections.

Harare still remains the epicentre of the virus having recorded 72 new infections of the 154 recorded yesterday, bringing the capital’s total to 1299 and 39 deaths, nearly half of the total number of recorded deaths in the country.

There are 50 new cases in Bulawayo, bringing the city’s total to 99, with 20 deaths. Manicaland has recorded 12 new cases and now the total number of cases stands at 113 with 6 deaths and Midlands has 8 new cases raising its total number of cases to 245 with 5 deaths.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic in March, Zimbabwe has done 137 808 tests to date. 1057 people have recovered from the virus.
