Harare City Council’s audit of residential and business stands has claimed the scalps of 18 top officials so far.

The investigation was commissioned in July 2020 following suspicion that senior council officials were involved in irregular stand allocations.

Former Mayor Councillor Herbert Gomba and ex-Housing Director Matthew Marara figure on the list of suspects.

And as investigators concluded their work on August 31, it emerged the total number of suspects is now 18.

Names of the latest suspects are, however, still under wraps.

Housing and Community Services Committee Chairperson Jacob Mafume told ZTN on Tuesday, “The result of the investigation has been that quite a number of people has been arrested. Many of the matters are now in the hands of police. “So, we are waiting for police to conclude lest we be accused of interfering with investigations. About 18 to 20 people have been affected.”
