The Government says circulating images of children in school uniform is not symbolic of the culture in Zimbabwe’s schools.
Most teachers have not been reporting for duty after schools reopened in September, resulting in school heads taking up classes. This has left some of the examination students filming themselves in compromising positions, leading to a public outcry.
Primary and Secondary education director of communication and advocacy, Taungana Ndoro said some of the mischief is a result of the learners’ upbringing.
“The few malcontents that you have seen on social media is something that is worrying the ministry.
“However, it is not something that is a ministerial problem because it reflects on where the child is coming from. Probably these children might have been abused,” Ndoro said.
He added that parents and guardians need to play their role of mentoring children at home to avoid such scenarios.
“Parents, guardians and developmental partners need to work together,” shared Ndoro.
