A 24-year-old Zimbabwean man allegedly posed as a doctor and drugged his victim before raping her.
Leonard Mwale was about to “attend to” 10 other women when police swooped on his “surgery” in Chitungwiza, a town near the capital, Harare, on Wednesday.
Mwale is in custody and will appear in court soon.
According to police, a 34-year-old woman posted a message on social networking platform WhatsApp seeking help for a stomach ailment.
“The complainant was then referred to Mwale,” said Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
“She was given a tablet and an injection which rendered her unconscious. She later gained consciousness and found the suspect in the process of raping her, thereby raising alarm.
“The complainant reported the matter to police, leading to Mwale’s arrest. It was established that Mwale has no medical qualifications.”
Detectives found an assortment of classified drugs at Mwale’s house.
The drugs include rabies vaccine, promethazine, rabies vaccine, diclotine oxytocin, hydrocotisol, citimile, cetriaxim, promethamide, metopramide, gentermide aminophyline and cloridrato.
Asst Comm Nyathi said other women who might have been abused to approach police.
