Six people drowned when their Toyota Hilux vehicle was swept into Gweru River as the driver tried to cross its submerged bridge.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko told ZTN News that the accident occurred at around 6am on Sunday.
Insp Mahoko said the six were heading to a mine with the vehicle towing a compressor.
ZTN arrived at the scene as the Zimbabwe Republic Police Sub-aqua Unit was retrieving the bodies.
“Six people are feared dead after the vehicle they were travelling in was swept away by a flooded Gweru River while trying to cross a bridge along Gweru-Matobo Road about 6 km outside Gweru City,” said Insp Mahoko.
