Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Sibusiso Moyo died of Covid-19, authorities in Harare have said.
Moyo becomes the third Zimbabwe Government minister to die of Covid-19 after Perrance Shiri (Agriculture) and Ellen Gwaradzimba (Manicaland Provincial Affairs).
In a statement on Wednesday, Acting Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet George Charamba said: “The late Minister succumbed to Covid-19 at a local hospital.”
He said further details regarding the death will be communicated “in due course”.
Zimbabwe has seen a surge in Covid-19 cases since December 2020, with 825 deaths recorded so far. On January 19 2021, cases peaked at 28 675.
The capital, Harare, is the epicenter with 10 262 cases and 288 deaths.
