Zimbabwe recorded 774 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, the highest single-day surge since the onset of the pandemic in March last year.
The capital, Harare, accounted for 571 of the cases, taking the national tally of new cases over the last four days to 2 000.
“All 774 are local cases,” the Ministry of Health and Child Care said in a statement on Sunday night.
Three people died in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 380.
The deaths were recorded in Bulawayo and Manicaland.
The Health Ministry said 3 313 PCR tests were carried out on Sunday showing a positivity rate of about 23 percent.
Zimbabwe has moved back to lockdown following a spike in cases over the weeks.
A total of 15265 cases and 11574 recoveries have been recorded since March 2020.
