· Paceman Tendai Chatara still injured, but where is Kyle Jarvis?

· Team expected to move into bio- bubble on February 1

· Eagles pace bowler and Logan Cup leading run scorer also in squad

Two matches into his first class career Eagles pace bowler Tanaka Chivanga has earned a call up into the Zimbabwe Cricket squad, ZTN sport can reveal.

The Eagles bowler, who made his debut against Mountaineers in December, is not the only new face in a much bigger squad selected ahead of Zimbabwe’s series against Afghanistan next month.

Leading Logan Cup run scorer Takudzwanaishe Kaitano has been rewarded for his 201 runs in three innings.

Tarisai Musakanda also makes a return to the side, so is off-spinner Tapiwa Mufudza who has been in several training squads, but is yet to earn a cap.

Also returning to the national training side is Tuskers pace bowler Ernest Masuku and leg-spinner Brendon Mavhuta.

Chivanga, a well-built lad who bowls at pace and has seven wickets at an average of 14.00, has been developing his skills in South Africa over the past years.

Senior pace bowler Tendai Chatara is still recovering from a bicep injury, but there have been questions on Kyle Jarvis who last played in over a year.

Either the 31-year-old is still injured or there might be other issues to his continued absence.

The team does not have many surprises as most of the senior players are included from the squad that toured Pakistan.

Zimbabwe will play two Tests and three T20Is against Afghanistan in a country yet to be confirmed.

Reports have been that the UAE, where Afghanistan played Ireland last week, or India will host the Afghanistan-Zimbabwe series.

Zimbabwe were last in action in November 2020 when they visited Pakistan for three ODIs and three T20Is.

The last time Zimbabwe played a Test was against Bangladesh in February 2020.

Head coach Lalchand Rajput also reunites with his team after missing out on the tour of Pakistan due to the Indian government’s travel restrictions to Pakistan.
