A four-year-old girl was mauled to death by a crocodile while attempting to cross a stream in Kariba, Zimbabwe.
The girl, whose identity could not be immediately established, was with her elder sister who escaped after rescuers stoned the reptile to death.
Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority spokesperson Tinashe Farawo told ZTN: “It is unfortunate that a four-year-old girl was killed by a crocodile in Kariba, while her sister escaped with serious injuries. “Communities are encouraged to treat every water body with caution.”
Human-wildlife conflict continues to increase in Zimbabwe.
Last week, a woman was trampled to death by an elephant in the same resort town.
Over the past five years, an estimated 500 people have died.
