Four armed robbers died in a shootout with detectives in the Central Business District of Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare, on Friday.
One of the robbers was a policeman whose two other accomplices were injured in the incident.
Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told ZTN: “(We) confirm the death of four robbers and arrest of two others in a shootout incident that happened at Number 110 Mbuya Nehanda Street, Harare.
“Police received a tip-off of the gang’s intention to rob the complainant. The
complainant entered the shop to collect a battery for his client, which he had forgotten.
Suddenly, six suspects armed with pistols pounced on him and robbed him of US$10000 cash.”
Police reacted to the scene, resulting in the shootout.
“The deceased are Constable Kudzai Kanjera (41), a police officer based at Hatfield Police Station; Admire Nhetwa (26); Brian Chivata (37) and Tatenda Chari (35); while Blessing Bheura (29) and Tichaona Kariwa (33) are in hospital under police guard.”
