A suspected robber who had subjected residents of Plumtree to a reign of terror along the town’s border post was assaulted to death by members of the community.
On Monday police in Plumtree, arrested four suspects in connection with the case of murder which occurred in December 2020.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said “On an unknown date during the month of December 2020 the suspects teamed up and fatally assaulted the victim with open hands, fists and booted feet. The suspects accused the victim of a series of robberies along Vaka borderline. They later dumped the body of the victim on the gravel roadside linking Izimnyama and Plumtree Border Post Road where it was later found, leading to the arrest of the suspects.”
Assistant Commissioner Nyathi also warned members of the public to refrain from meting out instant justice on suspected criminals.
“We advise members of the public to report criminal cases to the police and not take the law into their own hands.”
