Residents of Harare’s Marlborough suburb, were sent into panic mode on Tuesday night following reports on social media that a leopard had been spotted in their neighbourhood. An unidentified person had created an audio message alleging that the leopard and its cub were spotted in the area yesterday evening.
Another person noted that the leopard might have come from North of Marlborough where there are farms and forests right up to Mazowe Hotel.
It has since emerged that the reports may have been false. Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority spokesperson Tinashe Farawo, dismissed the claims.
“We have noted with concern social media reports that there was a leopard in Marlborough. We have asked people circulating that information to give us more details but no one is forthcoming. Therefore, we are dismissing those reports as false, because there is nothing of that sort that is happening”, he said.
