The two Grade One pupils who went missing in Zimbabwe’s Nyanga district on Tuesday were allegedly murdered and their bodies dumped in a pit latrine. The pupils were last seen after lessons at Saint Robert Mbaza Primary School. Both corpses had deep cuts on the neck.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told ZTN that investigators are on the case.

“We are investigating two cases of murder which occured at Sambaza Village, Mutasa, in Nyanga. “Two minors both aged seven, left home for school and never returned, prompting a search in surrounding areas. “Their bodies were found in a pit at a deserted homestead.”

The case comes as the Southern African nation is still grieving last year’s murder of another seven-year-old, Tapiwa Makore, of Murewa district. The murder has largely been linked to rituals, with the boy’s uncle among the suspects.
