Zimbabwe will procure one million doses of Covid-19 vaccines every month until there are enough doses to achieve herd immunity.
The country has already purchased 1.2 million doses from China which have been arriving in batches.
In a statement on Friday afternoon, Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said, “Going forward the country will be receiving one million doses of Covid-19 vaccines monthly from additional purchases aimed at reaching herd immunity”.
The treasury chief said a total of USD $100 million had been mobilised for the purchase of the vaccines.
So far, a total of 76 995 people have been vaccinated against the virus.
Zimbabwe targets to vaccinate 60 percent of the country’s population to achieve herd immunity.
The country has recorded 36 882 confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 34 686 recoveries and 1 523 deaths since the start of the pandemic in March last year.
