Zimbabwe is back on Level 4 lockdown with a 6pm to 6am curfew as authorities battle to control rising Covid-19 cases.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced this in the capital, Harare, on Tuesday.

Business will operate from 8am to 3pm, and is expected to decongest workplaces to 40 percent. Intercity travel is also banned under the latest measures which will run for the next two weeks.

The Zimbabwe leader said Cabinet ministers will be deployed to provinces to educate citizens on the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

Commercial transport will remain operational while observing Covid-19 protocols.

Zimbabwe has recorded 8 323 Covid-19 infections so far this year; the second highest number of cases recorded in a month since January.

At least 153 people have succumbed to the virus since the start of June.
