A 31-year-old woman from Zimbabwe’s Mashonaland Central Province was arrested at the weekend for allegedly selling a highly potent illicit brew known as ‘tumbwa’.

Police recovered 378 units of the illicit brew valued at around 70 000 Zimbabwe dollars. The woman, Judith Sora was arrested on Saturday at Madziwa Shopping Centre following a tip off.

Police detectives in civilian clothes approached Sora pretending to be potential customers. One of the officers tendered US$1 dollar to Sora who delivered the illicit brew, leading to her arrest.

Mashonaland Central provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the arrest to ZTN.

“Mashonaland Central police is confirming the arrest of Judith Sora, a female adult aged 31 at Madziwa Business Centre and the recovery of nine packs by 42 units of the illicit brew.”

Assistant Inspector Dhliwayo said the police would like to thank members of the public for information leading to the arrest of perpetrators of illicit beer dealings.

“Police have stepped up efforts to eradicate the illicit beer dealings and are appealing for more information leading to a total eradication of the supply, manufacturing, storage, possession, drinking and/or use of illicit beer,” he said.
