The Zimbabwean government intends to cushion vulnerable groups by extending its subsidy programme to products such as rice, sugar, salt, cooking oil and bread.

Presently only roller meal is being subsidised with $2,16 billion Zimbabwe dollars having been set aside for the programme.

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube told ZTN that they have already started looking into how the subsidy programme can be expanded.

“So we are looking into other basic commodities but we fully haven’t decided as how best to. We haven’t finalised the list but we are looking at how best we can bring commodities such as salt, sugar, and bread into the subsidy programme,” he said.
