An increased number of school teachers in Zimbabwe has resumed duties since striking a salary deal with the Government.

According to official statistics, attendance has risen from 30 percent to 75 percent.

The lowest-paid teacher is earning ZWL$19 000.

“Teacher attendance has shot up to 75% up from an average of 30%. In some other provinces it was actually lower than that ranging around 20%,” said Ministry of Primary and Secondary education spokesperson, Taungana Ndoro.

“This shows that the negotiations between Government and civil service and in particular reference to our teachers is bearing fruit as the teachers are back at work. We now have a teacher attendance higher than that of students as learner attendance is now averaging around 60%,” revealed Ndoro.
