‘Treasury has disbursed civil service bonuses’

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Finance says it released bonuses to civil servants on Wednesday in keeping with its promise.

However, civil servant representatives complained that the money is yet to reflect in bank accounts.

Last week, Government undertook to pay the bonuses this November instead of staggering them over two months.

On Tuesday, teachers, who are among the first civil servants to receive salaries, were taken aback after getting the usual monthly income.

Secretary for Finance George Guvamatanga told ZTN News:

“Treasury has already paid the bonuses. If the funds are not reflecting, it could be an issue of technical problems being experienced in the banking sector with the platforms but Treasury has paid.

“We have actually released funds for all civil servants. “So, whatever is there is an issue with the payment systems, mobile money; especially EcoCash.

“The banks have been overwhelmed, and because of that, it has created systems challenges. All salaries and bonus payments will be cleared this week and the funds have been provided.”
