Twelve-month imprisonment for Fantan, Levels and Dhama

Organisers of the New Year Eve music gig in Mbare have been slapped with a 12-month jail sentence for violating Covid-19 regulations.

The trio, Simbarashe Chanachimwe (Dhama), Arnold Kamudyariwa (DJ Fantan) and Tafadzwa Kadzimwe (DJ Levels) will however serve an effective six months in prison.

Harare provincial magistrate Mrs Vongai Guwuriro set aside the other six months for three years on condition that they will not commit a similar offence within that period.

The three had pleaded guilty to “partaking and convening a public gathering during a national lockdown period.”

In mitigation, the trio apologised to the court for their actions.

They offered to complement Government efforts to fight Covid-19 by engaging the Ministry of Health and Child Care for possible ambassadorial roles.
