The Zimbabwean Government says United Nations Special Rapporteur for Human Rights, Alena Douhan, who is in the country, will meet anyone who matters during her 10-day fact finding mission in Zimbabwe.

The UN envoy touched down in Zimbabwe on Sunday night. On Monday, she met President Emmerson Mnangagwa before later meeting Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi.

“She will meet anyone who matters,” said Minister Ziyambi.

“She is not meeting the Government alone. So if she requests to meet anyone that can be facilitated through the ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he added.

The minister also gave an overview of what the Government’s position is as other government departments are due to meet her.

“We met with the special rapporteur as the Ministry of Justice and gave her an overview on the issue of sanctions. But we are unable to give details about our deliberations with them.

“As you are aware they are on a fact finding mission to establish the extent of the effect of the sanctions on the ordinary people.

“But I am sure you are all aware that as a country we are on a drive to ensure that the sanctions are removed,” Minister Ziyambi explained.
