THE Zimbabwe Sports Ministry’s decision to give football the greenlight is a big boost for cricket which is seeking clearance to tour Pakistan.

Sporting Associations are applying to the country’s Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) for clearance before they can restart games despite the Coronavirus crisis.

And Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) need clearance from the commission ahead of next month’s tour of Pakistan for T20 and ODI matches in Multan and Rawalpindi, for a sport categorised as less risky.

“As the ministry responsible for the resumption of sport, we all know that soccer has been categorised as high risk,’’ Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister Kirsty Coventry said on Monday.

“But, we have been working with the ministry and SRC and the task force, which also comprise of sports doctors.

“We have come up with ideas, and proposals that we have now shared with PSL, Zifa and the Women’s Soccer League.”

If the situation on the ground is anything to go by, cricket could resume more easily than football.

The Chevrons have already been training at their respective provinces.

These developments come at a time when the Pakistan Cricket Board has reportedly approached the England Cricket Board seeking advice about creating a bio-secure environment for the series against Zimbabwe.

“The series against Zimbabwe is being taken seriously by the Board as it will allow the PCB to invite teams to Pakistan in future even if the Covid-19 pandemic does not die soon,” the PSB said.

England successfully hosted Pakistan under the same conditions.
