Will Zanu PF, MDC find each other?

Zimbabwe’s ruling party and the opposition MDC appear to be far from finding each other.

While there have been calls for the two parties to hold dialogue, indications are that the two parties may not find common ground soon.

Indigenous churches on Monday waded into the dialogue conversation, urging MDC to first recognize President Mnangagwa as the duly elected leader of the country.

The MDC insists that its claim of illegitimacy should be the basis for dialogue.

The party’s secretary general Charlton Hwende said, “The issue of legitimacy is at the centre of whatever dialogue that should be carried out in this country”.

But Zanu PF insists that its leader won the 2018 election fair and square and should be duly recognized.

 “The legitimacy of the President was confirmed by the highest court in the land, that is the Constitutional Court. Anybody who doesn’t recognize that, it is their own funeral,” the party’s secretary for information Ambassador Simon Khaya-Moyo said.

Political parties that took part in the 2018 elections are engaging in dialogue under the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) banner.

The Nelson Chamisa led MDC has opted not to participate.
