THE ZIMBABWE women’s beach volleyball team remains confident they will make it to the Olympics.

The team is in the second zonal phase of the CAVB Continental volleyball cup towards Tokyo 2020 qualification and they are placed in pool D.

Zimbabwe Volleyball Association secretary Tawanda Sithole said although results are unpredictable, they will be ready for the final battle when dates are announced.

“Volleyball is a game where the results are not so obvious,” Sithole said.

“We are not worried so far. The players went to Botswana for their clubs tournament which is starting on 25 January and for us, it’s an added advantage since they are training and they will be fit for national duty.”

Fears were that preparations would be affected by financial challenges.

The association has since gone on a media drive to try and raise funds for the campaign. Zimbabwe will face Egypt, Mozambique, Guinea Conakry and Uganda in group D.

In the first sub zonal qualifications which were held in Mozambique, the team won silver.
