Zambian opposition leader arrested

PRESIDENT of the deregistered National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zambia, Chishimba Kambwili has been arrested and charged with defamation of the President.

The former Member of Parliament was denied bail yesterday (Wednesday) and is expected to appear in court today.
Acting police spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the arrest of Mr Kambwili, following two hours of interrogation at Lusaka Central Police Station.
One of his lawyers Christopher Munda also confirmed the arrest and remarked: “Generally or legally, they (police) can only hold him up to tomorrow.
