The Zimbabwe Chess Federation has launched a Harare professional chess league in the capital.

In a press statement Harare Province chess chairperson Todd Matingire invited all stakeholders to register for the Harare Professional Chess League which will start on March 21. The closing date for registration is March 16.

Zimbabwe Chess Federation public relations director, Thabo Elisha said the league is the first of its kind and will be regulated by the World Chess Federation.

“It’s a new chess league by the Chess Federation of Zimbabwe. It invites all corporates to join. The federation is also assisting corporates who wish to start clubs at their institutions,” he said.

The Zimbabwe Chess Federation will roll out the leagues in all provinces and will have a national league in 2021.

The 2020 league champions and runner up will be promoted to the forthcoming National chess league. These will represent the province in inter provincial club competitions and will stand a chance of representing the country at the 2021 Africa chess club championships.
