Zim Football fraternity mourns Ntonga

ZIMBABWE’S sporting fraternity has been plunged into mourning, following the death of football administrator Musa Ntonga in Gweru on Thursday.

Ntonga was the first female chairperson of a Premier Soccer League club in Zimbabwe with WhaWha football club in 2015 and later become a referees’ commissioner.

Details surrounding the circumstances of her death are yet to verified.

The Zimbabwe Football Association led tributes for the departed administrator who was popularly known as Madam Boss in football circles.

“We are stunned by this news,” said Zifa communications and competitions manager Xolisani Gwesela.

“On behalf of the association we are very sorry for the loss. Football has lost a great administrator and a jovial character.

“Her family and friends are in my thoughts as they grieve this loss,” said Gwesela.

Former Shabanie Mine secretary general and PSL governor Pithus Shoko who worked closely with Ntonga shared the grief of the region.

“She had become part of the family and we were so saddened to hear the sad news. Her family, colleagues and friends are in our thoughts.

“Football has lost a great administrator who was very passionate about the game,” said Shoko.

FC Platinum also shared its grief in a statement.

“The FC Platinum family are saddened to hear of the passing of Musa Ntonga, former Hwahwa FC Chairperson.”

“Those who came in contact with her will attest that we have been robbed. She was strong, bold, a cheerleader to all those that she led and a true survivor.

“This gap will surely be hard to fill,” read part of the statement.
