THE Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) and the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society have donated goods to families affected by Cyclone Idai in Chirumhanzu District, Midlands province.
The union’s administrator Vaidah Makotsa said the disaster, which affected Eastern parts of Zimbabwe and some parts of Masvingo and Midlands provinces, left villagers vulnerable.
“The players, through FUZ, were moved by the tragedy that befell the country and it was only befitting that the players participate through this donation,” she said.
Red Cross representative Stambuli Kim expressed gratitude to the footballers.
“I want to express our profound gratitude to individuals, organisations and corporates who responded to our call through various donations for Cyclone Idai affected communities.
“The competing humanitarian needs always outweigh the available resources and we continue calling for increased collaboration so that we can assist the needy.
“As the Red Cross, due to our wide network of volunteers and community presence, we are always the first in and last out in response to emergencies,” said Kim.
