Zim Government, civil servants resume dialogue

Zimbabwe’s government and its workers are scheduled to meet Thursday in the capital Harare for further discussions under the National Joint Negotiating Forum.
The two sides failed to agree on a cushioning allowance of RTGS$97 offered by Government on Monday.
The Apex Council, a body comprising of 15 civil servant bodies on Wednesday rejected the offer saying it was “a mockery”.
The Apex Council wants salaries for civil servants to be increased to a minimum of RTGS$4500 from the current RTGS$600. But economic analysts say this goes against austerity measures government is implementing to reduce the national budget deficit and revive the economy.
Apex Council secretary, David Dzatsunga told ZTN the meeting is on.
“…according to what we agreed on Monday, we are supposed to meet today (Thursday) as the NJNC. However, we have not been given time and venue of the meeting yet,” said Dzatsunga.
