The Zimbabwe Government says it has entered into a deal with an unnamed private investor from the United Kingdom for the construction of 30 new health centres and three urban hospitals across the country.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said Public Private Partnership (PPP) deal costs an estimated USD$200 million.

Prof Ncube was speaking during the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce 5th Annual Business Review Conference in Harare on Thursday.

“Last week I was in the UK and we have now finalized an arrangement with a private investor…We are determined to have an impact in the health sector using both public and private resources,” said Professor Ncube.

In his 2020 budget proposal last month, Prof Ncube allocated ZWL$6, 5 billion to the health sector, which is about 11 percent of the total budget.

This is an improvement from last year’s 9 percent but is three percent short of the 15 percent prescribed under the Abuja Declaration.
