The Zimbabwe Government has presented “an improved” salary offer to civil servants, union representatives said on Friday.

ZTN could not immediately establish the new proposed salary scales, and Public Service Ministry officials could not be reached for comment.

Union leaders are expected to consult members before deciding whether or not to accept the offer.

Government officials and civil servant representatives met for third round talks in the capital, Harare, on Friday.

“There has been some tangible progress in the discussions,” the Apex Council, which represents civil servants, said in a communiqué.

“The National Joint Negotiating Council meeting (on Friday) agreed to adjourn to Monday 16 December 2020 to further consult their constituencies on an improved offer brought forth by the employer.”

Previous talks were inconclusive after workers rejected a 40 percent increment, which put the lowest-paid at ZW$13 000.

The workers want the equivalent of US$500.
