Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation has launched youth desks in government ministries, which will identify opportunities for young people to participate in the mainstream economy.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Dr. Thokozile Chitepo, said the programme aims at opening spaces for youths in vocational training colleges, equipping them with entrepreneurship skills, which will create employment opportunities for them.

She said the programme will cover all strategic sectors including mining, agriculture and tourism.

“For the effectiveness of the Youth Desks, there is need to identify and advertise youth development sectors so as to fight for the implementation and inclusion of the youth in different programmes planned by the government,” she said.

Dr. Chitepo was speaking at the official launch of the youth desks in Harare on Wednesday.

Delight Muchazondida, a member of the Zimbabwe Youth Council, praised the initiative saying it will empower youths.
