Zimbabwe’s High Court on Wednesday cancelled its earlier order nullifying proclamation of by-elections in six contested National Assembly constituencies.

This means polls will proceed in the six constituencies: Harare East, Mbizo, Kambuzuma, Mutasa South, Nkulumane and Pumula.

On Tuesday, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission cancelled the by-elections as they were being contested in court.

Nomination courts sat across the country to accept or reject papers from candidates eyeing March 26 by-elections.

In its latest order, the High Court said nomination should proceed.

“That pending the determination of this application, the applicant is granted the following relief: “The 1. respondent’s purported notice of cancellation of the Nomination Court for Nkulumane Constituency, Mbizo Constituency, Kambuzuma Constituency, Mutasa South Constituency, Pumula Constituency and Harare Constituency be and is hereby set aside.

“The Nomination Court process should proceed as per the proclamation of the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe,” said the High Court.
